Halifax Habitat for Humanity Announces Merger

Veterans Build FinalHalifax Habitat for Humanity announces the merger of their affiliate with the HFH of Southwest Volusia affiliate.  On July 1, 2016, Halifax HFH became Habitat for Humanity of Greater Volusia County (HFH-GVC) to reflect the expanded service area.  This merger was one welcomed by both Board of Directors of each affiliate and followed a specific process directed by Habitat for Humanity International.

The Boards overseeing both Affiliates had to approve the merger during three separate votes, respectively.  The third and final vote from the Southwest Board came on June 21, while the Halifax Board approved it on June 22, following a year of meetings and discussion.

“We’re very excited about the merger,” said Patricia Ford, HFH of Greater Volusia County Board President.  “The boards did a lot of work looking at the whole picture and looking at each affiliate,” she continued.  “We came to the decision that it would be best for homeowners and future homeowners to follow through with the merger.”

HFH of Greater Volusia County will service 172 total mortgages and select new homeowner candidates in a region that will now encompass Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Holly Hill, South Daytona, Port Orange, DeBary, Deltona, Enterprise, Orange City and Osteen.

“The real goal, the underlying goal of the whole merger, was simply to ensure that the new affiliate could help serve more families and individuals through our homeownership program,” said CEO Lori Gillooly.  “We wanted to expand the services that are offered and expand the building of homes.”
