A close look at local businesses competing for a cause

Bubba's Block Building PartyHalifax Habitat for Humanity is gearing up for its annual Bubba’s Block Building Party. This year marks the 14th year for the event held at the historic Daytona Beach Bandshell.

Signature sponsor, physician Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. provides all of the food and prizes, as well as other expenses, for the event.  Because of their extreme generosity, 100% percent of the Table Sponsorships support the building of Habitat homes.  All this is possible because of the  generous support and participation of our local business and civic partners.

Here’s a look at the Table Sponsors and the many ways they help their local Habitat for Humanity:

Fifth Third Bank – Fifth Third Bank is a special Key Partner to Halifax HFH.   They contribute daily to our mission by providing office and meeting space at their International Speedway Blvd. Financial Center.   They partner with us on financial literacy programs and support our events.  We are pleased that they will “build” with us on Saturday.  Join us and cheer on Fifth Third Bank  Financial Center Manager Juan Guevara and his team!!

Shrimpossibles – Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. – It’s not called Bubba’s Building Block Party for nothing. The team from Bubba’s not only keeps the crowd energized, they keep them full and happy. Everyone who participates in or volunteers for the event enjoys delicious food from Bubba Gump.

GE Volunteers – GE coordinates volunteer efforts company-wide and invites all employees to build stronger communities where they live and work. Their employees volunteer over 1 million hours of community service every year, and many of those hours are helping Habitat for Humanity. Locally, the GE Volunteers have built Habitat homes, served on the Halifax HFH Board and Committees and generously donated for more than 20 years!! The GE Volunteers donated enough funds to support two building teams from Spruce Creek High School  – the Academic Association and the French Club. Special thanks to the Teacher Advisors at Spruce Creek for all their support of this special building event.

Daytona International Speedway – Competition is right up the alley of  Daytona International Speedway corporation, and they generously provide two Table Sponsorships for local volunteers.  This year, they are sponsoring Building Teams from:  Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, who  are successful longtime competitors at the Bubba’s Block Building event.

Block Kids event sponsored by NAWICNational Association of Women in Construction (East Central Florida Chapter) – Whether volunteering on the construction site or at one of our fundraising events, NAWIC knows construction like nobody else, and their passion for sharing about construction shows in their sponsorship of the Block Kids Building Competition. The local east central, Florida chapter provides everything needed for children to participate in the event and develop a love for building. This is an “event within the event” that requires no pre-registration and is free of charge for children in grades K-6.  NAWIC has also partnered with Titan America to sponsor a table for a Bethune-Cookman University sorority.

Titan, America – When Titan America builds- you know it is a strong foundation! Halifax HFH appreciates their professionalism on the construction site and their partnership at this event.

Brown & Brown – Brown & Brown is well known in the community for its culture of caring and community involvement.  Their sponsorship of WYOTECH at this year’s Bubba’s Building Block Party brings together a winning business partner and a great local school whose students are truly community minded and Habitat Strong!

Root Company – Root Company was recently recognized as Halifax Habitat’s annual Spirit of Hope honoree for their longtime support of Habitat for Humanity. Like the GE Volunteers, Root Company has sponsored a table at this event EVERY YEAR.  Root Company employees have been creative builders at this event and have helped at Registration and other volunteer efforts.  This year, they are sponsoring the Mainland High School Air Force ROTC.

Barton Malow – It’s no wonder Barton Malow  is one of the best and brightest companies – they are 100% American and employee owned. It would be impossible to sum up all the work these wonderful  volunteers from Barton Malow have done in service on the  Habitat for Humanity construction site.  They have made time to help us as they make history at Daytona International Speedway.  They have truly embraced the local community and we are very grateful. They are also the one to beat this year – Barton Malow is the reigning winner of last year’s event and holds the title to “Forrest’s Favorite”. It would definitely be worth a trip to the Bandshell to see what they are planning this year.  While you are there, stop in at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. for a perfect lunch and tell them that Halifax HFH sent you!

Daytona Beverages – Daytona Beverages is celebrating its 20th year of serving our community as a business and leader in supporting local charities and organizations. They have supported this event as both a supporter of Halifax HFH and as a business partner of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.  This year, their Table Sponsorship will allow a team from the Bethune-Cookman University Religion and Philosophy department to build.

General Mechanical – The team at General Mechanical knows all about specialty construction, in fact, they led the interior renovations of the historic Daytona Beach Bandshell, where we will host the building competition. They have just completed a major construction project at Bethune-Cookman University and are happy to support the Bethune-Cookman University National Council of Negro Women at this year’s event.

Intracoastal Bank – Intracoastal Bank broke ground on its Volusia Banking Center in 2014 and their support of the Block Building event will help Habitat for Humanity break ground on new homes. Halifax HFH is proud of its affiliation with Intracoastal Bank and appreciative of their employee volunteer support.

Gateway Bank – Gateway Bank started in our community and has been working to make a difference ever since. They understand the importance of home ownership and will be on site to help us build a future for Habitat and cheering for their building team, Spruce Creek High School Young Republicans Club.

Cobb Cole,  Attorneys at Law – With 90 years in business, many of the Cobb Cole firm members have been recognized for their community support. Community involvement is a strong tradition at Cobb Cole and Halifax HFH is proud of their association with the firm.  Matthew S. Welch serves as Halifax HFH General Counsel.  Cobb Cole is sponsoring a building team from Spruce Creek High School’s Asian Association, another Bubba’s Building Block favorite!

Security First Insurance – Security First Insurance is in the business of protecting Florida homes, which makes them an ideal partner for Habitat for Humanity.  Ranked one of Florida’s best companies to work for, their employees are hands on volunteers for many local organizations. Halifax HFH is grateful for this support and their first year entrance as a building team.  Best wishes to our friends at Security First.

Halifax HFH ReStore – The ReStore is a year-round fundraiser and advocacy center for Halifax Habitat for Humanity.  Donated building materials, furniture and appliances result in funds to help build another local Habitat for Humanity home.  The ReStore is sponsoring a table this year for our current Homeowner Candidates.  This hard-working group of local individuals and their families will soon celebrate the building of their Habitat home.  They contribute hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” and then will purchase the home from Halifax HFH at no profit to the Habitat Affiliate who will also provide a zero-interest mortgage for the life of the loan.  All mortgage payments build equity for the Habitat Homeowner and support the building of other Habitat homes.  What a concept!

Building Habitat homes is everyone’s business and we welcome you to come out and cheer for your favorite business and teams  at this year’s Building Block event. The competition begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 7. Find the details here.
